Everything Grows staff recently attended a seminar on the Well Building Standard that is being rolled out globally and we were impressed with the program.

Here is the three paragraph description of the program from the Well Building web site:

We believe that buildings should be developed with people’s health and wellness at the center of design. The WELL Building Standard® takes a holistic approach to health in the built environment addressing behavior, operations and design.

WELL is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact human health and well-being, through air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind.

WELL is grounded in a body of medical research that explores the connection between the buildings where we spend more than 90 percent of our time, and the health and wellness of its occupants. WELL Certified™ spaces and WELL Compliant™ core and shell developments can help create a built environment that improves the nutrition, fitness, mood, sleep patterns, and performance of its occupants.

In going through the 102 Well Building standards requirements found in a 220 page PDF available for free from the Well Building web site, Everything Grows can help with the Biophilia requirement (standard item # 100):

Potted plants or planted beds cover at least 1% of floor area per floor

or

A plant wall per floor, covering a wall area equal or greater than 2% of the floor area, or covering the largest of the available walls, whichever is greater.

Keep an eye on this program — it is set to become an industry standard similar to LEED.
