Over watering an interior plant will almost always cause it to struggle and eventually die . Plants get their oxygen through their roots and when you over water the plant the soil turns to mud. Once this happens the roots cannot get any oxygen and the plant most likely will die. However, there is a way to get oxygen to the roots that can most likely save that over watered plant.
First, drain any access water from the container. Then create holes in the soil around the plant using something like a pencil for smaller plants or a broom handle for larger plants making the holes as deep as possible. This will not hurt the roots and it will get much needed oxygen to the root system.
